Storstrøm Bridge: A superlative infrastructure project
Spanning the Storstrøm Bridge - with formwork solutions from Hünnebeck
The Storstrøm Bridge spanning the Storstrøm strait is 4 km long, with a two-lane road, a bicycle lane and two railroad tracks. This important connection between Zealand and Falster was built with efficient formwork solutions by Hünnebeck.
About this project
The 4 km-long Storstrøm Bridge between Zealand and Falster is the third-largest bridge in Denmark.
As part of the Scandinavian Mediterranean Corridor, it helps to link the rest of Scandinavia to the north to Germany in the south through the vast Fehmarnbelt tunnel. A gigantic shipyard has been built on the little island of Masnedø, just off the coast of Zealand, to meet the demands of this daunting task. The precast elements for the bridge made entirely of concrete were then transported and installed in the shallow waters of the Storstrøm.
Hünnebeck contributed to 44 piers to support a 50 m span and a central pylon to support two 100 m-long cable-stay spans that will bear the load of the bridge.
For a construction project like the Storstrøm cable-stayed bridge between the Danish islands of Zealand and Falster to succeed, it takes meticulous planning, a lot of attention to the construction details as well as people, doers and experts with a passion for building.
The Storstrøm Bridge Project is one of Itinera S.p.A. infrastructure mega projects. Nearly 2.000 people have been working on this vast project during the planning and construction phase and Hünnebeck is proud to be a part of it.
